Book Specialty Cruises 90 days in advance. There’s a 24-hour cancellation policy and a credit card is required to book it. The boat can accommodate up to 12 guests (10 adults and 2 children) or 10 adults. The resorts participating are: Grand Floridian, Contemporary, Fort Wilderness, Wilderness Lodge, Polynesian, and Yacht and Beach Clubs. Specialty cruises are also available from the Downtown Disney Marketplace. Hours vary — standard trip lasts 50 minutes. Prices vary depending on the party size, food, and decorations. Pirate and Pals Fireworks Voyage – Beginning July 13, 2009, this Magical Cruise is open to all guests (not just Grand Gathering Guests). The voyage will depart from the Contemporary resort (exact location provided when you make the reservation). The total price for Guests 10 and older will be $53.99 and for Guests 3 – 9, the total price will be $30.99. Reservations for the Pirates & Pals Fireworks Voyage, can be made by contacting 407-WDW-PLAY (939-7529). You do not have to be a Walt Disney World resort guest to book this cruise.

The current Grand Gathering Experience includes (unclear if this will be the exact scenario once it opens to everyone): Snacks and beverages served in the Resort prior to meeting Mr. Smee and Captain Hook and boarding the boat. Then “shove off” on an evening voyage around the Seven Seas Lagoon, providing the perfect viewing location for WishesTM. You’ll set sail with Patch, your Pirate host, for this unforgettable journey filled with Disney trivia and songs. (Disney characters do not join the Guests on the boat.) After enjoying the delightful Electrical Water Pageant (select nights) and Wishes fireworks show, which is set over Cinderella Castle, Patch will narrate a story of Peter Pan on the return trip. The Bayside Marina near the Yacht Club also offers a special Albatross Treasure Cruise for children ages 4-10 — Children will wear bandannas as they follow clues and sail to many exotic “ports of call” around Crescent Lake and Epcot looking for treasure. During the voyage, children will hear a reading of “The Legend of the Albatross.” At the final port of call, children will have lunch of peanut butter and jelly sandwich, cookie, and juice box, and will split up the “buried treasure.” Held Monday, Wednesday and Friday 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. Children must be potty trained — no pull-ups. Port Orleans Riverside offers the Sassagoula River Adventure Cruise. Children travel along the Sassagoula River to learn the “Jester’s” way of life. Along the way they explore the Sassagoula River and finally meet the character known as the Jester. The cruise is held Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. for children ages 4-12. Cost is $28.17 plus tax per child. Call 407-WDW-PLAY to make reservations.

Island of the Caribbean Pirate Adventure – For children ages 4-10 (must be potty trained) — young adventurers, wearing pirate bandannas, will board a boat to sail the Ports of the Caribbean, just like Captain Jack! They will be told the story of Old Port Royale and of the pirates that used to sail the waters. They will find props and signs leading to treasure. Once they recover the treasure, they will sail to Fort Cay and trade for some grub (lunch). When they return to Old Port Royale, they will unlock the treasure chest and bounty will be shared by all. Want to see Epcot’s IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth spectacular in style? Consider renting the Breathless from the Yacht and Beach Club Marina or a Pontoon boat from either the YC/BC Marina or the Boardwalk Marina!

ILLUMINATIONS CRUISES

Breathless Close-upBreathless (shown above and to the right) is the motor boat named after the Dick Tracy character. It is a 24-foot ChrisCraft reproduction of a 1930 runabout powered by MerCruiser 350 cubic inch engine, reaching speeds of 50 mph! It has bench seats and can accommodate 6 guests maximum. The boat is not covered.

Cost for Breathless for IllumiNations starts at $275 (plus tax) for up to 6 guests and includes a driver.

NOTE: You can also ride on the Breathless during the day. Excursions depart from the marina daily 2:30 – 5:50 p.m. The price is $95 per 30 minutes.

Pontoon Boats — Another option for an IllumiNations cruise is to rent a pontoon boat. The 21 foot long boat will accommodate a maximum of 10 guests. The pontoon has a canopy, is roomier, and has some drink holders. When you rent either a pontoon or The Breathless, it belongs to your party for the show; meaning the only people there will be the ones you’ve invited! The price for a pontoon IllumiNations Cruise starts at $275 + tax, for a maximum of 10 people. Cost includes a driver. Food and beverage items are available through Yacht Club Private Dining at 407-934-3160. You may not bring your own food or beverages on board.

RESERVATIONS for all cruises are made by calling 407-WDW-PLAY, between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m., up to 90 days in advance. You must provide a credit card to hold the reservation. You must cancel at least 24 hours in advance or your card will be charged.

NOTE: The cruise has gotten very popular, so be sure to call ahead for the reservation.

Deb’s Mini-Review: Boats sit under the International Gateway bridge for viewing IllumiNations, but not right next to each other, so you feel like you’re having a private viewing. Sitting in Breathless, you have a wonderful view of the water fountains, laser ball, and fireworks. From what I can remember, there is a partial view of France (behind you on the right) and the UK (on your left). There are also partial views of Mexico, Germany, Italy, China and the US. Canada and Japan are not visible. The pontoon sits out a bit further and so you have a slightly better view.
